Best Smartphones Under ₹20,000 in India (October 2026)

Three phones we could support with sources, what each does best, and an honest list of the popular models we left out and why. Prices change daily, so we point you to the live listing instead of quoting one.

Published October 10, 2026. Last updated October 10, 2026. Last reviewed October 10, 2026.

How this guide was prepared. This guide is research-based. We did not test any phone ourselves. Specifications and review findings come from the third-party sources listed under Sources, read on 10 October 2026, and are credited where they appear. We did not open manufacturer specification pages for this edition, and we could not read prices from the Amazon.in or Flipkart listings, so the retailer links are searches for the exact model and prices are shown only as dated reports from a price-comparison site. Where sources disagreed, we say so rather than pick one.

The short verdict

No single phone here beats the others on everything, and the evidence we could gather does not support naming a "best overall". It does support two clear picks. The Samsung Galaxy M17 5G is the one to choose for its AMOLED screen and the longest support commitment, while the POCO M8x 5G is the one to choose for battery life, provided you see it priced under ₹20,000 on the day. The Moto G37 Power 5G is a reasonable battery-focused alternative, but its screen, camera and unclear update promise make it the weakest of the three.

We deliberately name winners only for display and software support and for battery life. We did not name a best camera or best performance phone, because none of these three is clearly ahead in the sources we read, and a single benchmark from one outlet is not enough to crown a winner. We also did not name a best-value phone, because we could not read verified retailer prices.

How we chose, and what we could not check

We began with a six-phone shortlist and checked it against the 10 October 2026 under-₹20,000 list from 91mobiles, launch coverage and review summaries. Only the Galaxy M17 5G survived; we replaced the rest with two phones that appear in the current list, the POCO M8x 5G and Moto G37 Power 5G. A phone is included only if its specifications, a review finding and a price report all point to the same exact configuration within the budget. The five shortlist phones we dropped are listed below.

  • Budget: a maximum of ₹20,000 as a displayed price for the stated configuration, before bank, coupon and exchange offers.
  • What we weighted: screen quality, battery endurance, update support, camera behaviour reported by reviewers, and everyday performance, in roughly that order for this price.
  • What are manufacturer specifications and what are review findings: specifications such as battery size and screen resolution are reported by the sources we cite. Statements about how a phone behaves, such as sluggishness, low-light noise or battery hours, are findings from 91mobiles' reviews and tests, not ours.
  • What we did not do: we did not test any phone, did not open manufacturer pages for this edition, and did not read Amazon.in or Flipkart listings. That is why prices are not quoted as retailer prices.

How to compare prices, bank offers, coupons and exchange deals

A phone's headline price and the price you pay can differ a lot, and the difference is usually conditional. Compare like with like, and write down which kind of price you are looking at.

Price typeWho gets itHow to treat it
Displayed priceEveryone, on that dayThe only figure that is comparable across stores. Match the exact RAM and storage first.
Bank or card discountOnly holders of the named card, often above a minimum spendCheck the card, the cap and the terms. Do not count it if you do not hold the card.
CouponAnyone who applies it, while it lastsConfirm it is applied at checkout. Some coupons are limited in number.
Exchange bonusOnly if you trade in an eligible old phoneDepends on your phone's condition and value. Never fold it into the base price.
Membership benefitOnly members of that programmeCompare only if you already have the membership.
EMI offerEligible cards and tenuresNo-cost EMI may still carry other costs. Read the terms.

Run the numbers with the discount calculator and the shopping cost calculator, and read bank discount vs coupon vs cashback and how to find genuine smartphone discounts for the method. The 2026 festive sales hub has the current sale dates.

Amazon or Flipkart for these phones?

We cannot tell you which store is cheaper for any of these phones, because we could not verify comparable, same-time prices on both. The sources we read showed different figures on the same day, and one even listed an implausible price, so a claim that one store is cheaper would be a guess. Open both listings for the exact variant and compare the displayed price, then the offers you can actually use.

  • Match RAM and storage on both sides. A 4GB + 128GB phone on one site and a 6GB + 128GB phone on the other is not a comparison.
  • Check the seller and whether the listing is the manufacturer's current model, since old stock and variants can appear.
  • Compare delivery, return window and warranty terms as well as price.
  • The links in this guide open a search for the exact model because we could not verify a direct product page. Pick the listing that matches the variant you want.

Which phone should you choose?

  • You keep phones for four to six years, or you watch a lot of video: the Galaxy M17 5G, for the AMOLED screen and the longest reported support.
  • Battery life matters most and you use the phone mainly for streaming, browsing and messaging: the POCO M8x 5G, if the price on the day is under ₹20,000.
  • You want strong battery life, a lighter phone and a clean interface: the Moto G37 Power 5G, once you have confirmed its update policy.
  • You play demanding games or take many low-light photos: none of these three is a standout for that in our sources. Read dedicated reviews before buying, and consider spending slightly more.

Phones from the starting shortlist we did not include

We began with six candidates. Here is what we found for the five that are not in the recommendations. "Not verified" means we could not confirm the model is currently sold at a verified price within the budget, not that it is a bad phone.

PhoneWhat we found on 10 October 2026Status
CMF by Nothing Phone 2 ProLaunched in May 2025 at ₹18,999 for 8GB + 128GB (GSMArena). A 91mobiles price page showed one ₹18,999 listing marked out of stock and another at ₹22,999. 91mobiles still rates its software highly. Not included: current availability within budget not confirmed
Moto G67 Power 5GNot on the 91mobiles under-₹20,000 list. Motorola's newer Moto G37 Power and G57 Power appear instead (the G57 Power was listed at ₹20,999).Not verified; not included
iQOO Z10x 5GNot on the list. iQOO's newer Z11 Lite 5G is listed with a Dimensity 6300, 6,500 mAh battery and HD+ display, at a reported ₹19,497.Not verified; not included
Moto G96 5GNot on the list. We did not find it in the sources we read and did not check further. Not verified; not included
POCO X7 5GAppears only as a related phone; POCO's newer X8 line has launched. We did not check its current price further. Not verified; not included

Phones that did appear in the 91mobiles list, such as the Moto G86 Power, were also left out because we could not reconcile conflicting specifications across the sources we read. We would rather leave a good phone out than state a processor we are unsure of.

Questions, answered

Frequently asked questions

Short answers to common questions about this topic.

We treat it as the displayed price for the exact configuration before bank discounts, coupons and exchange bonuses, because those depend on your cards and your old phone. A phone that only drops below ₹20,000 after a card offer is not under budget for everyone, and we call that out, as with the POCO M8x 5G.

Because those are the three we could support with sources for a specific configuration within the budget. Several popular models either could not be confirmed as currently sold within budget or had conflicting specifications across the sources we read. A shorter, honest list is more useful than a longer one we cannot stand behind.

We cannot say. We could not verify comparable same-time prices on both stores, and the figures we saw differed between pages. Open both listings for the exact RAM and storage variant and compare the displayed price first, then the offers you can use.

It is enough for calls, messaging and light use, but reviewers noticed sluggishness on the 4GB Galaxy M17 5G, and 4GB leaves less headroom as apps grow. If you plan to keep the phone for several years or multitask a lot, compare a 6GB variant if it stays under your budget.

Of the three, the Galaxy M17 5G has the longest reported commitment: six OS upgrades and six years of security updates. The POCO M8x 5G is reported to get four Android generations. For the Moto G37 Power 5G our sources disagreed, so confirm it on the listing.

No. This page does not fetch prices. Retailer prices are shown as "Check current price", and the dated reference figures come from a price-comparison site and are not read from the retailer. Always confirm on the listing before you buy.
